Why we visited the venues as a bride and groom, not as wedding planners: A crucial step in ensuring an authentic wedding

When we talk about weddings in Umbria, we know that every couple wants something unique, something that reflects the beauty, traditions and atmosphere of this incredible land. However, choosing the perfect venue is never an easy step. At Marry Me in Umbria, we believe that authenticity is the key to creating weddings that truly capture the soul of our region. This is why we decided to take the unusual step of visiting the venues as a couple, rather than as wedding planners.

Why this choice?

Our aim is very clear: we want to ensure that every venue we propose is not only beautiful to look at, but that it truly conveys the culture and spirit of Umbria. But how do we do this? The answer is simple: we have to ‘live’ the venue as if we were the bride and groom. Only in this way can we see reality without filters and without the influence of privileged treatment. We presented ourselves without an appointment, like a couple on a trip who happen to see a venue that intrigues them. We wanted to find out how a venue welcomes a couple without them knowing that wedding planners are behind it. This allowed us to test the behaviour, the welcome and the real experience that each bride and groom will have, without any prejudices related to our position as professionals.

What did we discover?

  1. Authenticity is in the details: in Umbria, every venue tells a story: that of the land, the traditions and the people who live there. Our visit as ‘newlyweds’ gave us the opportunity to see if a venue is really steeped in the authenticity we seek for you. Not only beautiful landscapes, but also the ability to make each guest feel special, with the atmosphere that only Umbria can offer.
  2. Real treatment: We turned up without an appointment, apparently in front of a closed door, and rang the bell as anyone would have done. If a venue is truly authentic, it must be able to welcome every couple with the same care and attention, whether they are ‘real newlyweds’ or professionals. In some cases, we met not only with location managers, but also with the owners of the venue, who told us the story of how they and their families have lived for generations. Each owner spoke to us with passion, highlighting every detail and nooks and crannies of the venue, making us understand why that particular location was special. The stories they shared with us were not just generic tales, but authentic memories that showed how every corner of the place was steeped in tradition, love and dedication.
  3. Review the overall experience: Every element of a wedding is important, but the venue plays a central role. Our approach allowed us to test how the venue lived and breathed every stage of the wedding, from the reception to the service and ambience. We wanted to understand whether the atmosphere, quality of service and Umbrian tradition were truly respected, and whether every detail was designed to offer an experience without surprises.

Why is this important to you?

When you entrust us with your wedding vision, you are entrusting us with choosing not just a beautiful venue, but one that reflects the authenticity of Umbria and delivers the experience you have dreamed of. Every venue we suggest has been visited with the same care and attention that we give to our brides and grooms.

Our promise is that every choice we make is the result of a genuine and sincere experience, because every wedding deserves to be experienced in a place that tells an authentic story.

We believe that the beauty of a wedding lies in the details that make it unique, but also in the authenticity that a venue can convey. Only in this way can we offer you an experience that is truly Umbrian, that celebrates the land and respects your roots. Every visit we make to a venue is a promise: to guarantee you a wedding that is perfect, authentic and without surprises.
